"When you first meet him, he’s a skeleton, but you can fix him up with a little judicious application of dragon’s blood. It turns out that he’s an ancient warrior from the early days, and he may be willing to join your band. Unlike most characters, he’s not only neutral (well, maybe a bit evil) but he prefers his companions that way, too. There’s not much you can do to change his mind except change your ways."

Location[]

Torian Kel can be found in a room in the northeast corner of the Ancient Temple.

Circumstances and Quests[]

  • Torian is an animated but crumbling skeleton on the verge of complete collapse. He asks the player for assistance to lift his undead curse and restore his humanity.
  • If the player completes the quest in a timely manner, then Torian can provide vast amounts of game lore about the Derian-Ka and the Molochean Hand

Recruitment[]

  • Torian Kel will join as a regular Follower provided:
    • The player has completed his quest in time
    • The party has an open follower slot
    • The player is at least level 19
    • The player does not have a Good alignment greater than +25

Special Follower Considerations[]

  • Torian's quest will be botched and he will not be available as a follower if the player takes too long to complete it
  • He is also viewed as a hostile target by the dungeon monsters, especially the skeleton archers that can get a line of sight on him through the door to his room when it is opened
  • Torian will leave the party if the player's alignment becomes +26 or greater
  • He will also leave the party and join Kerghan in the final battle if it comes down to a fight
  • He will not travel with the Bane of Kree if he discovers the Bane's role in the destruction of Kree

Interactions[]

  • Torian has little or nothing to say about most places that the party visits
  • He has special dialogue when visiting the ruins of Kree
  • He reacts respectfully to Geoffrey Tarellond-Ashe, recognizing him as a member of his former masters, the Derian-Ka
  • Geoffrey, in turn, views Torian disdainfully and still considers him undead, despite the curse being lifted
  • Magnus Shale Fist views him this way as well, and will refuse to travel with Torian
  • Torian also interacts with:

Background[]

Torian Kel is technically over 2000 years old, and this is essentially his third go-around in Arcanum. He was originally a soldier in the Kree military and died prior to it being sacked by barbarian hordes. His ancestral sword was later collected by the horde's leader, The Bane of Kree, as a spoil of war. Torian's next foray began 1500 years later as an undead warlord in the Grey Legions raised by the Derian-Ka, in their battle against the Molochean Hand. The battle did not go well and he was left to wander the land masterless for the next 500 years, slowly decaying and watching his other undead companions waste away. Now restored, Torian searches for a way to either revive his companions, or to give their spirits release by severing them from this plane of existence.
